A switch is a device with which it is possible to connect computers into a (local area) network, provided your computers all have an appropriate networking device installed. Switches can be daisy chained to form larger networks and come in managed and unmanaged variaties. The unmanaged versions generally cannot filter data and will forward any data that is fed into them, so they are better suited for small networks. Switches are easy to set up (just plug in the network cables) and allow you to share printers, storage space and other network resourses with your entire home or office network.
Seamless 10/100 Ethernet Switching The 3Com® OfficeConnect® Dual Speed Switch 16 is designed for small offices and remote branch offices requiring high network performance to exchange large data files and images, and access real-time information. Expand your network by adding more computers or devices with speeds up to 200 Mbps per port in full-duplex mode.

finds the fastest connection speed, with the autosensing 10/100 ports automatically adjusting to the speed of network devices communicating at 100 or 10 Mbps, so the switch can accommodate a range of workgroup applications. Automatic MDI/MDIX on every port simplifies network expansion by eliminating most common cabling errors. All that is needed is to connect the power and Ethernet cables.
There is no software to configure. Easy to set up, these switches feature a fanless design which provides silent operation.
- With plug-and-play installation and no configuration needed, the switch fits easily into your unmanaged network
- Automatic MDI/MDIX on every port simplifies network expansion by eliminating most common cabling errors
- Sixteen autosensing ports automatically detect the speed of the attached device to maximize network performance
- With plug-and-play installation and no configuration needed, it fits easily in your unmanaged network
- Full-duplex feature supports two-way data transfer, doubling the effective bandwidth of the network
- Compact, fanless design ensures quiet operation in small office spaces
- Connectors at rear help reduce cable clutter
- FCC Class B switch is approved for use in home office and small office environments
